The biliary stone retrieval forceps, with its core function of stone extraction, is introduced into the abdominal cavity through a minimal incision (5mm) on the abdominal wall. Under the guidance of a laparoscopic camera, it is precisely manipulated by surgeons to accomplish the following procedures:
1. Gallbladder stone extraction: Prior to cholecystectomy, it removes larger stones from the gallbladder to facilitate the extraction of the gallbladder through a small incision.
2. Common bile duct stone extraction: When stones migrate from the gallbladder into the common bile duct (i.e., choledocholithiasis), it is utilized to directly retrieve stones during common bile duct exploration.
3. Lithotripsy assistance: For larger stones that are difficult to extract directly, other instruments (such as laser or electrohydraulic lithotripsy probes) may be employed to fragment the stones initially, followed by piecemeal extraction using the retrieval forceps.
